Care Guides for Your Mahjong Mat Collection

This guide includes both general Mahjong mat care and dedicated Floating Mahjong Mat care, so every mat stays clean, protected, and ready for every game.

Guide 01

Mat Care

For regular Mahjong mats, table mats, and everyday play surfaces that need gentle cleaning, careful storage, and protection from heat, moisture, and sharp objects.

Guide 02

Floating Mat Care

For high-density EVA Floating Mahjong Mats used around water, pools, lakes, or outdoor gatherings where rinsing, drying, and storage are especially important.

Mat Care

General Mahjong Mat Care

Use this section for your regular Mahjong mats and table mats. These simple habits help protect the surface, shape, texture, and overall finish of the mat.

01

Everyday Cleaning

After regular play
  • Wipe After Use: Gently wipe the mat surface with a soft, dry microfiber cloth after each game to remove dust, fingerprints, and small particles.
  • Spot Clean Only: For light marks, use a slightly damp soft cloth with a mild soap solution. Avoid soaking the mat or applying too much water.
  • Avoid Abrasive Tools: Do not use hard brushes, scouring pads, or rough cloths, as they may scratch or damage the mat surface.
  • Dry Before Storage: Allow the mat to air dry fully before rolling, folding, or storing it.
02

Storage & Handling

Keep the mat protected between games
  • Roll Gently: If the mat is designed to roll, roll it loosely and evenly to avoid creases or pressure marks.
  • Store Flat or Rolled: Keep the mat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heavy items, sharp edges, and damp areas.
  • Avoid Heat: Do not place the mat near heaters, open flames, hot surfaces, steam, or prolonged direct sun exposure.
  • Protect the Surface: Avoid dragging racks, tiles, or accessories with sharp edges across the mat.
Floating Mat Care

High-Density EVA Floating Mahjong Mat Care

Use this section for the Floating Mahjong Mat. Because it may be exposed to water, chlorine, salt, sunscreen, and outdoor conditions, careful rinsing and drying are essential.

03

Post-Use Care

After every use, most critical step
  • Rinse Immediately: After use in pools, lakes, or the sea, immediately rinse both sides of the mat with clean, fresh water to remove chlorine, salt, sand, sunscreen, or other residues.
  • Gentle Cleaning: For visible dirt, use a soft cloth or sponge with a mild solution of dish soap or gentle soapy water. Do not use abrasive cleaners or stiff brushes that could scratch the surface.
  • Dry Thoroughly: Stand the mat upright or hang it in a cool, shaded, and well-ventilated area so air can circulate around all surfaces and crevices. Allow it to air dry completely.
  • Avoid Prolonged Sun: Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to help prevent the EVA material from becoming brittle or fading.
  • Store Dry: Always make sure the mat is completely dry before rolling or storing it. Storing while damp is the primary cause of mold and odors.
04

Periodic Deep Cleaning & Disinfection

Recommended monthly or as needed
  • Recommended Solution: Mix white vinegar and water in a 1:3 ratio. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and descaler.
  • Alternative: Use a highly diluted bleach solution of 1 part household bleach to 50 parts water. Test first on an inconspicuous area to check for colorfastness.
  • Cleaning Process: In a well-ventilated area, wipe down the entire mat using a soft cloth or sponge dipped in your chosen solution.
  • Seams and Stubborn Spots: Gently clean seams or stubborn areas with a soft-bristled brush, such as an old toothbrush.
  • Disinfection Time: Let the solution sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Final Rinse & Dry: Rinse thoroughly with plenty of fresh water until all cleaning residue is removed, then allow the mat to dry completely.
05

Treating Stubborn Stains or Mold

  • Spot Treatment: Apply 75% isopropyl rubbing alcohol directly to the affected area.
  • Wait & Scrub: Let it sit for 5 minutes, then scrub gently with a soft brush.
  • Follow Up: Perform a full periodic deep clean, followed by extremely thorough drying.
  • Brief Sun Exposure: Short exposure to sunlight, under 1 hour, may help kill mold spores. Afterwards, move the mat to a shaded and ventilated area to finish drying.
06

Storage Guidance & Important Do Nots

  • Do Not Use: Harsh solvents such as acetone, paint thinners, or strong chemical cleaners, as they can damage the EVA.
  • Avoid High Heat: Keep the mat away from open flames, hot water, steam cleaners, and direct heat sources to prevent deformation.
  • Prevent Scratches: Avoid contact with rough surfaces or sharp objects during use and handling.
  • Long-Term Storage: Store the completely dry mat in a dark, dry place. Desiccant packets may help control moisture.
  • Never Store Damp: Make sure the mat is 100% dry before rolling or storing.
